Artistic director Anatoly Emelianov brings new and exciting choreography to the performance of Sleeping Beauty. He will lead the production in the role of Prince Desire and dancing beside him will be Mariana Chemaline in the role of Princess Aurora. Yuri Ovstrovsky, winner of the Perm IBC, and Yulia Galavina, also a Perm graduate, will pair to perform the Blue Bird pas de deux.Â
Vadim Yarulin dances the role of the evil fairy, Carabosse. He is a highly honored graduate of the State Academic Ballet College of Perm. He has also won numerous IBC competitions.
The production is based on the original choreography of Marius Petipa.  Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky composed music for this ballet, which premiered at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1890.Â
French author Charles Perrault (1628 – 1703) wrote the original fairy tale at the close of the 17th century. He is credited with many of the most beloved stories, including Little Red Riding Hood, Puss in Boots and Cinderella. Selections from these famed Perrault tales were referenced in the last act of the original 19th century ballet as a wonderfully charming piccolo pas de deux. Moscow Ballet continues this tradition by including some of these whimsically charming characters in its production.
