Nutcracker wouldn’t be Nutcracker without the local Children’s cast! Dancing along side the full international professional cast are local Charleston children from the Ballet Academy of Charleston. Ballet Academy of Charleston was founded in 1993 by Mara Meir. Hundreds of children and adults in the greater Charleston area have been taught classical ballet in this small but serious ballet school.  The regimentation and discipline of classical ballet training taught at this Ballet Academy should give students new poise, maturity, grace and awareness of the body as well as education into the world and history of ballet – and the joy that being a part of music and dance can bring.  The school presents no recitals in order to dedicate total class time to learning and improving basic and advanced techniques and skills.  Progression through graded classes is based solely on the ability of the student to master the techniques taught at each level as well as having the physical and emotional development necessary for a responsible learning process.
