Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker is coming to Durham and the company is looking for local ballet students ages 6 to 18 years for children’s roles. Local youth can audition to be Party Children, Small Mice, Snowflakes, Russian Snow Maidens and more roles through Moscow Ballet’s communityDance with Us party students engagement “Dance with Us” program. Auditions are led by a Moscow Ballet company member/pedagogue in each performance city this fall. The “Dance with Us” program has brought over 100,000 aspiring ballerinas and ballerinos on stage with the professionals over the past 27 years. Auditions are free (although there may be a casting fee and a minimal rehearsal fee), hand-sewn costumes are provided, and dress rehearsal is on stage with the Russian company the day of the performance.

The Gift of Christmas Tour Comes to Durham Wed., December 18 and Thurs., December 19

Moscow Ballet brings the Gift of Christmas Tour to Durham with Great Russian Nutcracker performances bringing holiday magic to life and creating unforgettable memories for all ages. The company performs at Carolina Theatre on Wed., Dec. 18, 7 p.m. and Thurs., Dec. 19, 3 p.m. matinee and 7 p.m. 

Moscow Ballet makes Christmas gift giving easy with the holiday performance that delights all ages…from the life-sized Kissy Doll to the fierce, red-eyed Rat King; and the Russian Troika Sleigh bringing Masha through the Snow Forest to the Land of Peace and Harmony which is populated with 10 foot tall dancing puppets, exotic flying birds and dancing couples from the world’s five great heritages. 

About Durham's Host Studios

Durham School of Ballet and the Performing Arts, LLC (DSBPA) offers classes for students age two through adult who enjoy dancing, as well as for those who wish to pursue a professional career. Instructors are currently certified by ABT National Training Curriculum, Escola National de Ballet de Cuba, Imperial School of Dancing, and New England Conservatory of Circus Arts. They encourage and support their staff in pursuing continuing education opportunities for the benefit of students’ training. DSBPA constantly looks for opportunities to train students from communities traditionally underrepresented in classical ballet and aerial via national partnerships such as Project Plié and are seeking local partnerships with underrepresented groups. 

Spotlight Dance Company offers students a place to learn to dance, meet new people and have fun while boosting their own self-confidence. They offer a variety of classes at affordable prices and provide their students with the newest dance trends as well as the classical knowledge they need to be a great dancer. Located in the heart of downtown, Spotlight Dance Company has a unique offering of children, adult & fitness classes. Their classes are taught by extensively trained and well-educated teachers who have a vast background in both performance and education.

About The Carolina Theatre of Durham

The non-profit Carolina Theatre of Durham is one of downtown’s most loved and established arts organizations.
