Musical Wunderkind in Hayward: Violinist Matthew Nguyen

Matthew Nguyen is a talented, up and coming violinist in Hayward, California. He is Concertmaster for the Mount Eden High School String Ensemble and regularly performs with the High School Orchestra. He chose to play violin because he thought it was a really nice instrument, and he wanted to get into music in middle school. The choices were either percussion or violin and he is really glad he picked violin to this day. As a player, he has grown a lot. In his freshman year, he was in the lower range of chairs, but eventually grew enough to be assigned Second Chair in his Junior year. He is now aspiring to play well enough in his audition to earn First Chair this year. Matthew’s favorite piece to play is Symphony in G-minor, Op. 6, No. 6 by Johann Christian Bach. He has made many good memories from this song, as he played it in the Chamber Orchestra offered at Mount Eden High School. The Mount Eden High School orchestra performs often, ranging from concerts taking place at the school for students, to festivals, fundraisers, collaborative performances with the school choir, and competitions, averaging more than 10 performances every year.
