Alex Oliva joins the cast of NUTCRACKER! Magical Christmas Ballet in the 2023 US tour as a Cyr wheel artist. Alex has performed with companies and festivals all over the world, including the Western Australian Circus Festival, the International Salieri Circus Award in Italy, and the San Diego Circus Festival. Most notably at the San Diego Circus Festival, he received numerous awards for his Cyr wheel and aerial straps acts, as well as the sole award granted by CircusTalk for technical prowess and creativity.
Alex received his training in Montreal under world-renowned coaches Eric Deschenes, Angelica Bongiovonni, and Victor Fomine. Within circus, he has performed tours with traditional circuses such as the US tour of “Circus on Ice”, and with contemporary companies such as Circus 617. His multi-disciplinary performances are commonly at the intersection of acrobatics and dance, including with dance-circus company Caroline Calouche & Co. in their Nutcracker and Rouge productions and with the New Orleans-based Artivism Dance. Alex has also performed acrobatics with live symphonies and opera productions such as Symphoria and CirqOvation in Syracuse, NY and with Opera on Tap Boston. Other notable companies include House of Yes, Scarlett Entertainment, and Bindlestiff Family Cirkus. Prior to circus, Alex was a contemporary dancer with Urbanity Underground in Boston and was a trained competitive gymnast.
