Ren Morioka, NUTCRACKER! Magical Christmas Ballet prima ballerina, will lead the 2024 Western USA tour. Born in Hiroshima, Japan, she began her ballet training under the tutelage of Emi Tanaka and Keiko Koike, who are both renowned for their meticulous instruction and profound influence on young dancers. Ren’s prodigious talent and dedication earned her a place at The Royal Ballet School in 2017, where she honed her craft for two years. During her tenure, she graced the stage in notable roles such as the Angel in “Nutcracker,” The Lilac Cavalier in “Sleeping Beauty,” and the Woodpecker in Liam Scarlett’s “The Cunning Little Vixen.” She also performed in “Simple Symphony” by Alastair Marriott, showcasing her versatility and technical prowess.
She has shined in Frederick Ashton’s “Les Rendezvous” and took on major roles including Princess Aurora in “Sleeping Beauty,” and Medora in “Le Corsaire,” among others in productions like “Western Symphony.” Her performances were characterized by her elegant precision and expressive presence.
The year 2023 marked a significant milestone in Ren’s career as she joined the Tani Momoko Ballet Company. Here, she achieved a personal triumph by starring in her first leading role as Odette-Odile in the full-length “SWAN LAKE” during the New Year performance of 2024 at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, enchanting audiences with her dual portrayal to rave reviews.
Ren’s journey has also been distinguished by her competitive successes. She was a top finalist at the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) in New York in 2013 and secured multiple awards in Japan, including the 1st prize at the National Junior Ballet Competition and the All Japan Ballet Competition. Her consistent excellence has not only defined her early career but also set the stage for her continued ascendancy in the world of ballet.
